Oprah

Today is Oprah Winfrey's last show. No matter how you feel about her, the truth is that she got people reading. In fact, that's number 5 in a a list entitled "Ten Ways Lady O Changed aytime Talk TV"...

5. She got people to read.
With the growth of the Internet, people stopped reading books. Yes, J.K. Rowling and Stephanie Meyer got teenagers reading, but it was Oprah that got adults turning off their TVs and cracking open a good book. Not just any book, but one that was picked for her book club. Fans would tune in to the episode where she would announce the next book, then purchase it, read it and chat about it with their friends. She picked classics, fiction, biographies, you name it. If Oprah loved it, you were likely to love it, too.
